Deadline nearing for MAC applications

West county’s coastal and river residents have a chance to serve on local municipal advisory councils (MAC), which help give a voice to west county’s unincorporated areas at the county level. Applications for the available seats opened earlier this month and are due by Oct. 30 at 5 p.m.

Zombies will march for charities in upcoming event

Zombies will be staggering around the Healdsburg Plaza and taking over downtown sidewalks on Oct. 16 for a new charity event called the Sonoma County Zombie Movement, which aims to raise funds for the National Brain Tumor Society and the Redwood Empire Food Bank.

SLIDESHOW: Runners take to the streets for annual Turkey Trot

Runners filled two blocks of Center Street, shoulder-to-shoulder awaiting the official start of the Healdsburg Turkey Trot 5k run on Thanksgiving. Not counting the canine entries, a number of runners equal to one-tenth the city's population toed, sprinted, jogged and got pushed in baby carriages across the starting line in front of Healdsburg Running Company.

Monte Rio property slated for county park and open space

Sonoma County Regional Parks purchased 515 acres of land in Monte Rio for future use as a county park and open space preserve. The $3.9 million purchase was approved by the county board of supervisors in August and the land was purchased in October.
