Healdsburg Forever doles out grant funds to 13 local nonprofits

Healdsburg Forever has delivered its largest grant yet — $445,000 in community impact funds were recently divided out to 13 local nonprofits. The grants were awarded across six impact areas prioritizing food insecurity, health care, housing, senior services, youth/education and support of Latinx communities.

Scout reaches rank of Eagle

Seventeen-year-old Dreiling, son of Martin and Debra Dreiling, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout, one of the highest honors within the Boy Scouts of America. A January 14 ceremony was presided over by scoutmaster Douglas Price, with former scoutmaster Mark Teitz presenting the trail to Eagle and assistant senior patrol leader Kieran Price leading the posting of the colors, pledge of allegiance and with troop guide Gary Munsell presenting the Scout Laws. In attendance were Henry’s parents, relatives, family friends and the members of Troop 21.

La Familia Sana, a nonprofit located in Cloverdale, is growing its partnership with Corazón Healdsburg in hopes of bringing more resources to the area. In the past, both organizations have helped one another when it comes to helping families — whether it was with housing supplies, food or COVID-19 tests, a partnership was already there.

City budget review looks at cuts, changes

Healdsburg City Council and the city’s administrative services and finance director, Heather Ippoliti, have started to review the city’s budget for the next fiscal cycle. The council met several times last week in both closed and open session meetings to discuss the city’s biennial budget for 2020-21 and 2021-22 and the necessary budget changes and cuts that will need to be implemented to soften the blow from the COVID-19 related economic recession.

Cloverdale council discussing how to spend American Rescue Plan funds

At its meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 13, the Cloverdale City Council will be tackling a two-item regular agenda, one item of which will be to discuss how the council wants to spend the funds it received from the federal government as part of the American Rescue Plan Act. The second is to consider adopting a resolution urging the Surface Transportation Board to reject an application for the North Coast Rail Company to acquire and rehabilitate the North Coast Rail Authority’s rail line between Eureka and Willits. The meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m., will be held both over Zoom and in person at the Cloverdale Performing Arts Center.

UPDATE: Sexual assault suspect arrested

UPDATE: On Oct. 18, at about 9 p.m., the Healdsburg Police Department made an arrest on a male transient sought on suspicion of sexually battery against a female jogger on Oct. 13.
