Healdsburg residents will see a one-time rate increase for waste services next year
Recology Sonoma Marin, and all other state trash haulers, will be getting more responsibilities due to Senate Bill 1381 and consequently, Healdsburg residents will see a one-time trash rate increase adjustment of 3.3% effective Jan. 1, 2023.
Ag + Open Space awards $5.8 million for community open space projects
On March 23, the board of directors of the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (Ag + Open Space) recommended funding of over $5.8 million for new recreational projects within or near urban areas throughout Sonoma County.

Students’ art rises out of the ashes
When fairgoers walked into the still exhibit hall of the Cloverdale Citrus Fair, above them hung a large charcoal mural painted by seven students from Geyserville New Tech Academy. The mural, titled “Phoenix Rising,” was created in response to the students’ experiences during and following the Kincade Fire and was made using charcoal harvested from logs that were burnt on the school’s campus during the fire.
Social distancing egg hunts
Through April 5, homes around Windsor will take part in a “social distance” egg hunt. Based on the recent national trend of a virtual “bear hunt” wherein people put teddy bears in the their front windows for children to spot as they walk by in neighborhoods during shut downs. With local egg hunts being cancelled left and right, the virtual version is based on a similar concept. Local homes are encouraged to create artwork eggs of any sort and place them in their windows for kids to spot.
Special challenges of special education students under quarantine
The sudden shift to remote learning has pushed Sonoma County’s 40 school districts into unchartered territory, testing already-strained resources. For its nearly 400 special education students, the transition has been especially tough, and the stakes could not be higher, as districts plan for summer and fall sessions.
Mill Creek completes wildfire protection plan
Fire Safe Sonoma and the unincorporated community of Mill Creek Road in the western wooded outskirts of Healdsburg announced last week the completion of their Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), a detailed document that measures wildfire risks specific to an area and identifies ways to mitigate that risk in a comprehensive plan.

‘No Lucchetti, no school’: Students walk out in support of Washington principal
What was billed as a walkout by Washington School students became a run-out Wednesday, as approximately 150 to 200 students left campus at lunch to protest the absence of the school’s principal, Mark Lucchetti. When students saw Lucchetti standing at the end of Citrus Fair Drive, they raised their signs and ran toward him, swarming and chanting his name.
