El Mercadito de Windsor Sunday market debuts this weekend

There’s a new Sunday market coming to Windsor, and organizers hope it will help bridge gaps in communication, information and community support. “El Mercadito de Windsor” will feature Latino food, clothing and crafts made by local artisans and will run from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sundays beginning July 11.

Windsor council deadlocked over how to fill vacant council seat

The Windsor Town Council is still at an impasse when it comes to deciding how to fill its vacant town council seat and with no plans to revisit the discussion at the next council meeting on July 21, the vacancy topic will likely be placed on the ballot of the next available election date, April 12, 2022. Half of the council, Councilmembers Debora Fudge and Esther Lemus were in favor of appointing someone to the position, with Mayor Sam Salmon and Vice Mayor Rosa Reynoza in favor of holding an election.

Just before that, a few thousand Sonoma County high school seniors took their first steps toward adulthood and independence. All of us are emerging from a year-plus of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. A few of us are swearing by our independence to not be forced to vaccinate. And, all those 3- and 4-year-olds under our feet keep letting us know that one definition of independence is the ability to say “no.”

Sebastopol council OKs mandatory 25% water reduction

Sebastopolians are about to have more stringent water use guidelines. The city is moving from requesting a voluntary 10% systemwide water reduction to making a 25% reduction mandatory. On July 6, the Sebastopol City Council unanimously voted in favor of a resolution bumping the city up to Stage 2 of its water conservation plan, a decision that reflects the sense of immediacy surrounding the drought.
