We are SoCoNews, which is short for Sonoma County Local New Initiative, our new community-based nonprofit owner. It’s more than a name change, even though our local news mission stays the same and all the people here are still on board and continuing to work harder than ever.
Reynoza appointed vice mayor
In a unanimous vote on June 16, at the beginning of Windsor’s regular town council meeting, the council selected newcomer Rosa Reynoza to be the vice mayor for the rest of 2021.

Sebastopol council reviewing SPD audit on June 17
The Sebastopol City Council is holding a special meeting to receive a presentation about the city’s independent review of the Sebastopol Police Department (SPD), conducted by Jerry Threet, the retired director and founder of the Sonoma County Independent Office of Law Enforcement Review & Outreach (IOLERO). Per the report provided to the city, Threet specializes in reviewing police practices and the civilian oversight of law enforcement.
Cooling center opened at senior center, will remain open through June 18
The city of Healdsburg has opened a cooling center at the Healdsburg Senior Center at 133 Matheson St.
Healdsburg Rotary 4th of July event to return this year
The flash of yellow seen from racing rubber ducks and the smell of hot dogs will return to the Plaza on July 4 for the Rotary Club of Healdsburg Sunrise’s annual 4th of July celebration. While there will be no fireworks this year, the free, small-town event will still have other fun activities for the whole family.
