There comes a time every season when, having prepared a certain type of vegetable 15 different ways over the last week, a gardener reluctantly realizes that they never want to eat that particular vegetable ever again (or at least not this season).

Update: The budget meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning is being postponed to a future date, as the council was unable to reach a quorum. In attendance at the meeting was acting Mayor Marta Cruz and Councilmember Gus Wolter. Councilmembers Melanie Bagby and Todd Lands were absent. Former mayor Jason Turner resigned from his council post on May 4.

The Cloverdale Unified School District (CUSD) Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting this week. The board will meet over Zoom, beginning at 4 p.m., to discuss the 2021-22 instructional calendar, take possible action on the creation of a middle school dean job description for Washington Middle School and consider the creation of a teacher on special assignment job description.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office sent its helicopter Henry-1 into the air to assist patrol deputies in chasing a motorcyclist from west Santa Rosa through west county that concluded in an arrest in Graton Saturday night, May 1, according to a 10:33 p.m. post on the Sonoma Sheriff Facebook page that night.

Election Day is almost here

Fire Safe Sonoma is hosting a set of workshops in early May to solicit input on the update of the Sonoma County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), which was last updated in 2016.

In a statement released May 3, the board of directors of the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (Ag + Open Space) announced it will consider the appointment of Misti Arias as general manager during its May 11 meeting. Arias was selected following a national search and has served at Ag + Open Space in various roles since 1996, starting as an Open Space planning technician and most recently as interim assistant general manager.  

Rotary Club of Sebastopol Sunrise is doing a silent auction, called the Water and Life Auction,  from May 2 through May 16 to raise money for the Russian Riverkeepers’ Clean Team and their work keeping the Russian River and its tributaries clean and healthy.

The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) will receive over $1 million in state and federal funds to be used this summer and over the next few years for expanded learning opportunities and social and emotional support to address the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on children and learning.

The old Madrona Manor Inn is set to reopen in late 2021 as The Madrona, a whole new luxury country hotel experience led and designed by interior designer Jay Jeffers.
