Acid reducing medications increase risk of serious COVID-19 cases

Temporary sculpture garden grows on hotel site

Local artist Ned Kahn is building a temporary sculpture garden in the weedy, empty lot just east of Sebastopol’s downtown plaza. The future home of Hotel Sebastopol, the lot has been an eyesore in downtown for years now, although the extensive chain link fencing around the property has proved to be an inviting canvas for both a local homeless artist and political activists, including the local Black Lives Matter movement.

Oregon posts workplace outbreaks, California has no such plan

California and Oregon were lauded for their early response to the pandemic, with swift and broad shutdowns aimed at slowing the spread of coronavirus. In reopening their economies, both states imposed stringent requirements for masks and face coverings.

World-renowned artist designs Russian River Creative Reopening installations

Welcoming messages for businesses and principles of pandemic safety have arrived in a series of art installations throughout the Russian River area by Jim Isermann, part-time local and world-famous artist. The project was a business match made in a diner for Bob Pullum, creative director of the “Creative ReOpening Project” of the Russian River and Monte Rio Chambers of Commerce.

Cloverdale honors its veterans

The American Legion Post 293, veterans, Cloverdale Police officers and Sonoma County Supervisor James Gore gathered outside the Cloverdale Veteran’s Memorial Building on Wednesday morning to honor and recognize those who have served in the armed forces and those who are still on active duty.

Funding drive kicks off for the Graton Green

The Graton Green Group, a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that created and maintains a small community park at the center of the Graton village is conducting a fund drive to raise $5,000 to cover annual insurance and maintenance costs.

In remembrance

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of local Veteran’s Day ceremonies usually officiated over in Healdsburg and Windsor by the American Legion Sotoyome Post 111. Members of the post in most years would gather for brief remarks and a trumpet or gun salute at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11 in the Healdsburg Plaza and the Town of Windsor Town Green. This year, a few decorations laid in the Plaza was all that could be done. Now celebrated as a national holiday, Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day, the date in 1918 when then end of hostilities was called and ended World War.
