To help celebrate Cloverdale's local students, we'd like to recognize all of the kids from Washington Middle School who were named Student of the Month for the September.
Corazón Healdsburg receives pair of grants to help with Kincade recovery
Corazón Healdsburg announced on Friday, Oct. 16 that it secured two substantial grants to help northern Sonoma County recover from fires and better prepare for the next crisis. Both the Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) grant of $250,000 and the American Red Cross grant of $485,000 are providing aid for Kincade Fire survivors, and specifically the more than 400 local families who were impacted economically by the Kincade Fire but did not receive other recovery funds.
Sebastopol City Council preview
The Sebastopol City Council is slated to address a small agenda at its meeting on Oct. 20, with no presentation, one proclamation and three regular business items. The meeting will be held virtually starting at 6 p.m. The meetings are broadcast live over Zoom or livestream.com, and are also available to watch after the meeting occurs. Fire Weather Watch issued for first half of week
After a one-day reprieve from the region being on a fire-related weather watch, the National Weather Service (NWS) has once again issued a Fire Weather Watch for the area around Sonoma County. The watch is in effect for North Bay mountains from 11 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19 through 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Measure O proposes quarter cent sales tax for mental health and homeless services
This November Sonoma County voters will be asked to approve Measure O, an initiative that would increase the sales tax by 1/4 of one cent per dollar (0.25%) on all taxable sales in the county for 10 years in order to fund mental health and addiction services and facilities for children, adults, seniors, veterans and for those experiencing homelessness.

With Halloween around the corner, and families desperate for some degree of normalcy, trying to figure out what activities can be enjoyed safely has become important. Around the county, there will be drive-thru events, social-distanced events and many neighborhoods are going through with trick-or-treating with pandemic precautions. Figuring out which of those options is safe for your family can be tricky.
