‘Totally inadequate’: Most Californians in wildfire-prone counties aren’t signed up for emergency alerts

Tracey Aldrich had never heard of CodeRED, Butte County’s opt-in emergency notification system, until she came upon a roadblock leading up to her mother’s house in August. At the roadblock, police told her a firestorm was bearing down on her mother’s neighborhood in Berry Creek. Neither she nor her mother had received any evacuation warnings.

Measure asks voters to OK the sale of hospital

For perhaps the fifth or sixth time since 1998, voters and property owners of north Sonoma County are being asked to keep their hospital in Healdsburg open and providing critical access and emergency room care. This time, the measure in question on the Nov. 3 ballot seeks approval of a purchase agreement for the hospital with NorCal HealthConnect, LLC, a secular affiliate of Providence St. Joseph Health that owns Santa Rosa’s Memorial Hospital.

Linda and Joe Maloney chosen as Locals Who Make a Difference

The city of Sebastopol has chosen Joe and Linda Maloney as the next Locals Who Make a Difference. The couple was honored at the Sept. 1 city council meeting. Their faces will soon adorn banners on Main Street.

Windsor Celebrates El Día de los Muertos

On Oct. 2, the community of Windsor turned out to celebrate its Mexican heritage and honor its ancestors by building El Día de los Muertos memorial altars on the Town Green. It is part of a month-long celebration of the holiday.
