Dear Editor: I don’t know about you, but when I’m sitting shotgun, driving down the highway, I like to hang my head way out the window, suck up those sniffs and really let my ears fly. It’s both invigorating and relaxing at the same time.

9:48am A phone indicated that the phone’s owner was in an accident on Healdsburg Avenue. An officer responded, but the phone’s owner was gone on arrival and unable to be located. Phone calls to the device were not answered... And more news from the weekly Police Logs.

Healdsburg Police officers responded to a report of an assault at Byron Gibbs Park at 5:27pm on Sunday, Aug. 3. When they arrived on the scene, on Prentice Drive near Sunnyvale Drive, they found a woman in her 70s bleeding profusely from her head. She related that she and her husband, from the East Bay region, had been visiting the area and went to Gibbs Park to use the public restroom...

Residents of the Town of Windsor should be able to sleep in a bit longer this week. Town Manager Jon Davis said that the town would have a final inspection from the Federal Rail Administration on Monday, Aug. 4, following which “Quiet Zone” signage along the railroad track would be unveiled that would forbid SMART trains from using their horns within city limits.

The 24-inch-by-20-inch blue signs have popped up at a number of streetside locations around town: in front yards and shop driveways, at Rec Park and Bell’s Ambulance, even at the Big John’s intersection. They’re anti-idling signs, encouraging drivers to “Turn Your Key, Be Idle Free!”

11:28am An accident with property damage was reported on Hwy 101 at Dry Creek Road. A Healdsburg officer located a damaged vehicle in the No. 1 lane and waited for California Highway Patrol to arrive. The officer searched the area for the suspect vehicle, but it was gone on arrival and unable to be located.

The first public meeting of the Healdsburg City Council in seven weeks will be held on Monday, Aug. 4. The July break has become traditional in Healdsburg, but the city’s departments—Planning & Building, Parks & Recreation, Public Works and others—did not cease operations. The council...

The Planning Commission, one of the most important citizens commissions in city governance, is currently looking for applicants—preferably female—to fill out the seven-member panel. The commission meets twice monthly in public hearings (if necessary) on “proposed development plans, conditional use permits, subdivision maps and other land use matters, as well as proposed changes to the Land Use Code, Zoning Map, and the General Plan,” according to the city website.

The RP’s father let the RP stay over the previous two nights in violation of a court order. The RP’s father was concerned that the RP was delusional. The RP believed he was given a large sum of money to save his loved ones from sex slavery. Officers responded and while en route, the RP was seen on Healdsburg Avenue. The 32-YO man was arrested and brought to county jail for contempt of court.
