County to remain on watchlist as virus hospitalizations, case rates increase
Sonoma County added 79 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours and currently there’s an overall total of 70 deaths, five of which occurred in the last 24 hours among the county’s older and more vulnerable population in skilled nursing and residential elder care facilities according to an update from Sonoma County Health Officer, Dr. Sundari Mase.
County declares emergency amid wildfires
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors declared a local emergency Friday afternoon, Aug. 21, in response to the Walbridge Fire burning down to Armstrong Woods that continues to threaten the Rio Nido, Guerneville and lower Russian River communities.

The agenda for the Aug. 19 Windsor Town Council meeting was never a long one, but after the Walbridge Fire burst into being and sent nerves fraying as it crept closer to the town’s limits, the agenda was tightened even further.
Walbridge fire lines holding, lack of resources still an issue
With burning conditions not as severe as seen in nights prior, fire crews have maintained the fire lines of the Walbridge Fire along Sweetwater Springs Road, however, despite a concentrated effort to contain the Stewarts fire burning at the heel of Lake Sonoma near Skaggs Springs Road, it is going to be allowed to burn into Walbridge in order to better allocate resources across the area, according to CalFire Division Chief Ben Nicholls.
