New wording to HUSD breathalyzer policy aims to create more transparency

The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) is making some changes to its search and seizure/breathalyzer policy and setting parameters on what constitutes reasonable suspicion for being under the influence after some parents voiced concern when their Latinx children were pulled out of class for breathalyzer tests.

Palm Drive Board grants Gravenstein Health Action $200,000

At what was supposed to be its last meeting before dissolution, the Palm Drive Health Care District (PDHCD) board voted 3-2 to grant Gravenstein Health Action, formerly the board’s community health subcommittee, $200,000 in seed money to fund its transition to a new nonprofit organization. Gail Thomas, Eira Klich-Heartt and Dennis Colthurst voted in favor of the grant, while Richard Power and an obviously torn Randy Coffman voted against it.

Health officer announces another round of business reopenings

Sonoma County Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase announced Thursday night, June 18, a large-scale reopening of many of the county businesses that have been shuttered due to the county’s shelter-in-place order. The new order, which allows businesses such as nail salons, tattoo parlors, movie theaters, gyms, museums and galleries to open, goes into effect at midnight on Friday, June 19. The easing of the order also allows hotels, short-term rentals and campgrounds to open for recreational travel — though, the county is still trying to discourage long-distance travel for leisure.

School board honors district’s lone retiree of the year

The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) School Board of Trustees honored retiring Healdsburg Junior High School teacher Rosa Duran-Vazquez at their most recent meeting on June 17.
