In talking to Fourth District Supervisor James Gore about his aspirations for 2017, you’ll incidentally hear a lot about his plans for 2018, the year he’s expected to chair the Board of Supervisors and when he’ll be running for re-election. Gore has been on the job for two years now as a county supervisor, and his perspective has broadened, he said.

Local grapes dominate wine competition
The 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, held at Cloverdale's Citrus Fair last week, is now in the record books. More than 6,700 American wines, from all over the USA, were entered into this year’s competition and after 3.5 days of swirling, sniffing, sipping, spitting and judging six wines received the penultimate recognition of Best of Class Sweepstakes awardees.
St. John School celebrates National Catholic Schools Week
National Catholic Schools Week is an annual celebration of what makes education at St. John Catholic School (SJS) outstanding. Starting with Sunday Mass on Jan. 29, SJS will have a week of activities planned to show what students are accomplishing and to celebrate the community they have built to educate tomorrow’s leaders.
Friends, Food, and Fun on Fitch Mountain
The Third Annual Fitch Mountain Fun Night will take place at the Villa Chanticleer Annex on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Although sponsored by the Fitch Mountain Association, as in other years the free event is open to all friends of the mountain, whether they live there or beyond. The dinner will be potluck and the cooking competition will be a cake bake-off. The after-dinner entertainment is “Fitch Mountain Bingo,” with unique cards and a variety of white elephant gifts and local merchant certificates as prizes for letter bingos and blackouts.
