A shattering quiet

The look could only be described as a smirk. That’s what it was, that’s what struck me to the core like a cold stabbing, sliver thin bolt of ice. The photo in the paper showed the brothers standing at the Boston Marathon. Near a place that would, in a matter of minutes, resemble more a ravaged war zone than a celebratory gathering of runners from around the world realizing their life-long, or annual, dreams.

Following record October rains, Healdsburg downgrades water shortage plan

The city of Healdsburg is scaling back its water conservation measures from Stage 3 of the city’s water shortage contingency plan to Stage 2, which targets a 20% reduction in water usage citywide by prohibiting certain uses of water. It had previously been targeting a 40% reduction in water use.

Healdsburg school board reviewing ethnic studies course proposal

The Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) Board of Trustees has a busy agenda on tap for its next meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17. The school board will swear in its new student trustee, Annie Petersen, and it will receive reports on the possibility of implementing ethnic studies throughout the HUSD and at Healdsburg High School.

Group heads to Healdsburg to advocate for better working conditions for farmworkers

On Oct. 10, people from North Bay Jobs with Justice gathered at the Healdsburg Plaza to hold a Puesto Popular/Farmstand for Justice to raise awareness about their “5 for farmworkers in fires” campaign which calls for better working conditions and language justice for Sonoma County farmworkers.

Sebastopol council preparing for relaunch, discussing new police practices and efficiency

Scattered across the Sebastopol City Council’s Oct. 19 agenda are several items with the potential to define the city in its policing practices, economic relaunch, energy efficiency and water conservation and more.
