Ballot endorsements, urgency housing ordinance up for council discussion
The Cloverdale City Council has an arduous agenda for its meeting this Wednesday, Oct. 14. The council will be reviewing and considering endorsing a small handful of ballot measures and propositions on the November ballot, considering adopting an urgency ordinance extending temporary housing standards and considering canceling its Nov. 25 and Dec. 23 meetings.
Sonoma County to adopt preemptive stay-at-home order
In a statement on Dec. 10, the county announced that due to rising COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations, Sonoma County will join six other Bay Area counties and the city of Berkeley in preemptively adopting the California Department of Public Health’s Stay-Home Order beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. The local order adopts the restrictions contained within the state’s recently announced Regional Stay-at-Home order.
Flex Alert issued for this weekend, residents urged to use less power
The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has issued a Flex Alert for the entire state of California, urging people to try to conserve power. The alert is in effect starting Saturday and extends through Monday, from 3 to 9 p.m. Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) also sent out an announcement on Sept. 3, asking its customers to conserve energy during the afternoons and evenings Labor Day weekend.
Hair salons, barber shops, malls allowed to reopen
The county of Sonoma announced Sunday evening that barber shops, hair salons and malls in the county will be allowed to reopen with modifications, effective Monday, Aug. 31. The reopening comes days after a new structure for California county reopenings was announced by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
Black Lives Matter mural defaced
A week after an event was held commemorating the new Black Lives Matter mural in downtown Sebastopol, someone spray painted over the first few letters of the piece — writing “all” in white, over the bright yellow letters of the word “Black.”
CalFire investigators find PG&E lines responsible for Kincade Fire
In a statement released on July 16, CalFire investigators released the findings of their months-long investigation into the cause of the Kincade Fire, finding PG&E lines to be responsible for the blaze. The Kincade Fire in Sonoma County started on October 23, 2019, and burned a total of 77,758 acres, destroyed 374 structures and caused four non-life-threatening injuries.
