Bill Wheeler, the painter of open spaces and advocate of open living at his coastal commune, died early Tuesday morning at his remote Occidental-area home. It was the same home that was made famous by a flock of hippies searching to find freedom by living off the land exactly 50 years ago.

Grand theft charges dropped against Amy’s Wicked Slush owner
