Local election should be smooth, even with high turnout

In the upcoming general election on Nov. 3, Sonoma County voters can expect normal and safe conditions compared to what is being heard about in so many other parts of the country where jurisdictions are not as practiced at voting by mail. Adding to the voting balancing act is the possibility of high turnouts while having to navigate pandemic-related social distancing and precautions.

WSCUHSD board approves parcel tax poll amid debate

The West Sonoma County Union School District (WSCUHSD) board voted Friday night to poll west county voters on support for a parcel tax to keep the schools afloat until the board can get more community input around consolidation.

County virus case statistics differ from region, similar to like counties

County Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase gave an update on the county’s COVID-19 virus statistics earlier this week, noting changes in the governor’s system for classifying county virus statistics and pointing out similarities and differences between Sonoma County’s virus cases and the cases of other counties in the region.

Governments close parks and beaches

In an effort to encourage people to stay at home, the Sonoma County Department of Health Services announced on Monday, March 23, that it would be closing all parks in the county effective March 24. The order stating the closure of local parks comes on the heels of a weekend where parks across Sonoma County were full to the brim with people enjoying the outdoors — some of whom weren’t abiding by the county’s social distancing protocol.
