North county community members came to Cloverdale Citrus Fair on Aug. 7 for the Northern Sonoma County Fire and Earthquake Safety Expo.

According to a statement from the district attorney’s office, a Windsor man has been convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery and molestation of a child.

As smoke from the massive Dixie Fire made its way to Sonoma County, the Healdsburg Fire Department convened a group of fire ecologists, land management experts and stewardship specialists on Aug. 4 to provide a presentation to the community on fire ecology and how certain burns can help restore the land and work to help prevent devastating wildfires.

North county law enforcement agencies collaborated in the apprehension of a suspect threatening his girlfriend and leading them on a car chase on Aug. 4. The suspect, identified as Christian Andersen, 38, from Cloverdale, is being held on $250,000 bond.

Heart City made its debut in Cloverdale as a holiday pop-up shop in December 2019, opening full-time as a “modern day five and dime” in February 2020. Now, shop owner Erin Turko is going back to the store’s roots, opening up the shop for makers who want to use part of the retail space to hold their own pop-ups.

Residents of Sebastopol made their disapproval of the Woodmark Apartments planned for Bodega Avenue known at the Sebastopol City Council’s Aug. 3 meeting. The council, however, refrained from passing judgment or responding to questions and comments directly — in part because the decision may be out of their hands. That's because the developer, The Pacific Companies, has applied for approval for the 84-unit, affordable apartment complex via a streamlined state process created by California Senate Bill 35, effectively making an end run around Sebastopol's design review board and the city council itself, which may be forced by the constraints of the process to approve the project.
