County lungs look healthier

The American Lung Association in California released its annual “State of Tobacco Control” report, which assigns grades to all California cities and counties, including Sonoma County, on key tobacco control policies.

The Legacy of ‘Padre Marvin’

Father MarvinBowers came to Healdsburg in 1972 and started his outreach by making friends with Monsignor Jack O’Hare at St. John’s across the street. Pastor Bill Hayes of the Federated Church (now Healdsburg Community Church) soon joined them, forming a weekly ecumenical lunch which engendered several church-started yet secular community services. He died in April.

SMART train is getting closer to Healdsburg

Daily service to Windsor on SMART
The Town of Windsor is requesting Federal Railroad Administration approval to implement “quiet zones” as the trains approach the station. Routine train horn use at designated crossings will be eliminated between Shiloh Road and the station, except in emergency or safety-critical situations. The hope is that the quiet zones will become effective as early as mid-July, though it will possibly be somewhat later.
