My husband and I had the pleasure of seeing Jerry Seinfeld live at the Luther Burbank Center last Friday night. As you know, we are huge Seinfeld fans and I was lucky enough to score the tickets for his Christmas present.

Mother Nature is a charmer most of the time; an alarmist some of the time. In early morning, I was checking my email at the computer in my den, a cozy room filled with books and heated in winter by a gas insert stove. The familiar song of the mourning dove interrupted my train of thought.

Years ago, a few weeks before Christmas, our friend and neighbor Jessie King rose up in church and appealed for us to bring shoeboxes filled with combs and hair brushes and little toys for the severely handicapped children in the state hospital near Glen Ellen. She said many of these children are all but forgotten and never receive Christmas presents. She said she would like the gifts placed on the communion table so they could be blessed before she took them to the hospital.

Summertime means longer days, warmer temperatures and an increase in outdoor activities. If you are a dog or cat owner or come in contact with pets, you know that summertime brings more pests, especially fleas and ticks. Why are these pesky pests a cause for concern? What should we consider before using pet pesticides and are there alternatives we can use to protect our pets, ourselves and our environment?

Bean Affair. What does that mean? Sounds a little like a Mexican restaurant, yes? But it’s a coffee shop in Healdsburg. Does it imply that you should have a romantic affair with your coffee beans? Can I just say, “Yuck?”

It’s more than luck that us folks living in Sonoma County have things pretty good.
